Staring Into The Fire

Life rolls on, over us too,
The same for me, the same for you
Until it stops with a lurch,
We rest upon our little perch
Not giving it the respect it deserves,
Then it ends, in a cruel swerve;
That's when we all fall down,
Collapsing to the tear stained ground.
We fall to our knees and weep,
Feeling thought, emotions deep,
Cascading rivers of swelling fear,
Failing hands holding friends near...
Peace be with you who too soon go,
We live on, but even though,
Will meet again, past the mists of time,
Where reason converges with it's rhyme.
Until then we remember,
Like falling snow, sparkling December,
When at night the fires burn dim,
And thoughts turn to the grim;
Into the glowing embers we stare,
Our hearts heavy with memory aware;
To our minds eye, your face becomes clear,
Lifting the vail of sorrow and fear.
