New Moon

Stars twinkle in the night,
A harbinger of coming light.
Dreams fade into the dawn,
Slowly erased until gone.
I remember times long ago,
When clearly life did not show.
Its twisted visage, an offering,
Burnt in reverence to ashen thing.
A new moon risen in the sky,
Darkly shining ever so high.
A beast of burden never born,
Yet to which we all mourn.
So as day comes with lightened shade,
It fades again in darkened grade.
