Dogfight

Bullets whiz by in a flash,
In a clash of soaring metallic titans;
Overhead, the whine of fine-tuned steel,
I strain not to lose the edge.
Our wills force near breaking,
Minds racing, pulse quickening;
Another failed volley of thunder flies,
I duck and weave amongst angelic clouds.
Locked in flight and fury I wait,
Looking for a reason to live, to kill;
A moment goes, fatefully cursed by foes,
I strike out with my leaden fangs.
Stricken he falls to ash in ruin,
Escaping only by mere moments;
Victory, I tell myself, and for a second I am glad,
Now, onward into the fray!
